A Bit of Magic

When you're with Mary Poppins, suddenly you're in places you've never dreamed of.

If I could bottle up the ideal childhood it would consist of two main ingredients: Imagination and a Bit of Magic. You need both, you see. Imagination is where it all begins. But sometimes you need just a bit of magic to bring those dreams to life. That is what I love about Halloween.

It's easy. Let's see. You think. You wink. You do a double blink. You close your eyes and jump.

I don't love Halloween for the spookiness of it all. Not my thing. What I love is the magic come to life. You get an idea in your head, utilize every thrift store in a 5 mile radius, and pull from the bibs and bobs around your house to bring that idea to life.

In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun
You find the fun and snap, the job's a game.

Just like that. Magic! Caroline adores the movie Mary Poppins. And it was a joy to bring the characters to life for her. We watched the movie on Saturday before our church Trunk or Treat on Sunday, and costume debut. "Mommy you need a tape measure." "Daddy, you need to bring chalk." "Can Winni come? She can be the dog, except she can't talk." For a night, we could together as a family bring Caroline's imagination to life. And she could also look inside the imaginations of her other little friends. And big friends. Halloween is exactly what childhood is made of. Imagination. And Magic.

Are you a procrastinator with no costume plans yet? No judgments. Take a little inspiration from our costume parade over on A Tale of Two Mamas. It was as much fun to pull together as it was to show off. I am already dreaming about next year.

Happiest of Magical Halloweens to you all!
